Be Motivated By Love

Have you heard someone talking who sounded so self-righteous you didn’t stop to find out if what they were saying was true?  Sometimes we get so focused on the truth, that we forget about the person who needs that truth.

It’s important that we know the truth that God gave us in His word.  It’s important that we share that truth.  But how do we do it in a way that will actually be helpful?

The key is love

If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing.  1 Corinthians 13:2

If people don’t know you love them by your actions, even before you speak the truth, your words are not spoken in love.

Love first.  Never sacrifice truth in doing so, but love first.  Love without truth leads astray, but truth without love won’t lead anywhere.

When love is your motivation, truth is heard.

Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.  Mark 6:34

When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said.  Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped. “Young man,” he said, “I tell you, get up.”  Luke 7:13-14

Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.  Matthew 14:14

Jesus first loved.  Out of that love He met the needs and spoke truth.

Make sure love is your motivation.

Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous.  Be strong.  And do everything with love.  1 Corinthians 16:13-14
