Point the Finger (#5 of 12 Things)

Do you ever fear for the future of our kids? Do you ever ask yourself what you
can do to help them? Over 12 weeks I’ll be sharing one thing you can do to
help the kids in your life grow closer to God.

May God give you strength, wisdom, and joy as you reach tomorrow’s hero!

#5 of 12 Things

Point the Finger

We love our kids and we want to do everything we can for them.  The reality is
we won’t always be there for them.

Pointing them to Scripture when the opportunity presents itself will help them
learn to lean on the One who will be.

If your child is struggling with self worth, you could share Ephesians 1:5,
“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to
himself through Jesus Christ.  This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him
great pleasure.”

If they’re dealing with injustice you could share how David dealt with injustice
from Saul (1 Samuel 19-24) If your child feels they’re too young to do anything
important, you can share how God used King Josiah to bring reformation to the
Israelite nation or share 1Timothy 4:12,
“Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young.  Be an example to
all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith,
and your purity.”

If your child isn’t sure what to do with their future, you can assure them of
God’s faithfulness and His plans for their life.  Sharing verses like Jeremiah
29:11,
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for
good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’”

will be an encouragement to them. There is no end to the number of situations
the Bible can help us with.

Pointing your kids to Scripture in meaningful ways will:

  1. Show them that the Bible is relevant to their lives
  2. Encourage them to read the Bible
  3. Help them see they can always turn to God

Is there anything more important you could teach them?  Is there anyone more
capable?
