Bert and Ernie
While on a Zoom meeting the other day, I saw sitting on a cabinet in front of me, stuffed dolls of Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street. They were more than just toys to me when I was a child, they were my adventure pals! Imagine how distraught I was when we discovered that I had left Bert in a taxi while on vacation with my parents.
Imagine how distraught my parents must have been with all my wailing.
I loved Bert and Ernie so much that when I saw the same Bert and Ernie in a store ten years ago, I bought them. I know, I’m a big kid at heart, and I’m thankful my wife lets me be one…most of the time.
This Christmas, as we think about the gifts we’re giving to our children, I can’t help but ask a deeper question: Will these gifts have a lasting impact? Will our children grow up to love something, or someone, as enduring as Jesus?
We can influence this, not just through the gifts we give and what we teach them, but by praying for our children. And just when we feel we’ve prayed enough, let’s pray some more.
As we celebrate Christmas in just over a week, let’s remember that the greatest gift we can give our children is Jesus. It’s the greatest gift God has given us.
Is there a tradition you like to do with your family to help Jesus at the centre of it? We’d love to hear from you!
