I looked forward to school

As a kid I didn’t look forward to going back to school. Waking up early, sitting through classes, submitting assignments, writing tests and dealing with all the social pressures that come are just a few of the reasons why.

As a parent I don’t look forward to going back to school. Less time with my kids, waking up early, making lunches for school, coordinating transportation to and from school are just a few of the reasons why.

But as a Christian teenager, I looked forward to school. Despite all the challenges that come with being a Christian in a non-Christian setting there was a lot to look forward to. The daily routine helped me get back into a consistent devotional time with the Lord; Weekly church programs were back on to help me grow in my faith; and it was easier to reach out to my non-Christian friends, simply by being around them every day.

As concerned as we might be for our kids today, we can never lose sight that God is always at work, not just in the lives of Christian kids, but in the lives of non-Christian kids as well.

Some might say, in today’s world our kids are “sheep among wolves.” I would agree, if we aren’t discipling them well.

But if we are discipling them well, I would argue they are “light in the darkness.”

Would you take time today to pray for the schools in your neighbourhood?  Would you pray that God would help our kids be a light in the darkness?

Let’s pray for tomorrow’s heroes.

Whether you are able to give once, or monthly, we thank you for your unwavering support.
