How’d she get here?
If you’ve journeyed with us for any length of time you’ve probably heard the name, Amy Oosterloo (formerly Amy Nie) come up a few times. It’s been such a blessing to see her start as a young teen to eventually joining our staff. Here’s a glimpse into how she got here:
I’ve got a little secret for you, our Provincial director and I have been serving with CEF for almost the same amount of time. That’s right, He only has one year on me!
However, I think my beginning with CEF was a little different than our director, Ivhan Rusli’s.
When I was in grade 11 I felt God calling me to be a missionary. Back then I thought that meant I had to go to another country like Africa or Asia in order to be a missionary.
So, I decided to go to my pastor and talk with him first. He told me about this mission organization called CEFOntario that did ministry right here in ONTARIO!
Who would have guessed!
He said, “Why not start local and see what God does with [you] there?” I prayed about it and decided to do just that!
At the time, I didn’t even know what CEF stood for.
I took the summer training and spent the summer doing clubs in my home town with my church. I did that for two more summers.
I would go on to intern with CEF for a couple of summers and for about fourteen years I continued to volunteer in a variety of capacities, whether that be running a Slingshot Saturday club or spending most of my summers at Camp Good News.
I ended up becoming a supply teacher in a public school board and children and youth ministry leader at a church during that time. But God never closed the door on local missions for me.
Two years ago, I finally answered God’s call to come on staff with CEFOntario and it feels like home.
I get to pursue my passion of reaching kids with the gospel while being surrounded by old friends and mentors (like my once CEF youth director, now “big boss”) with the same passion.
Whether you are able to give once, or monthly, we thank you for your unwavering support.
