Lesson with Counterfeit Money: Authentic Values in a World of Fakes
It takes a dedicated team of curriculum writers to develop the STEM program. As one of our staff likes to say, “It’s more perspiration than inspiration.” Hear the heart of Amy Oosterloo, one of our curriculum writers.
“I spend most of the year writing curriculum for our STEM clubs. While many would think this is a boring job, I often find this exciting.
“Why?” you may ask.
Science was my favourite subject throughout school and I minored in biology in university. With writing this curriculum I get to dive into topics like 3D printing bones, the Hubble telescope, rare earth metals, how we hear a record, and so many others…but you’ll have to run a STEM club to know the rest.
Some of these topics I am pretty familiar with, while others I am learning about for the first time. One similarity though is how it always amazes me how God is so interconnected with them.
I remember writing a lesson on how Jesus turned water to wine. *Spoiler alert* He did something no one else could do. Water and wine are made up of some of the same atoms, such as hydrogen and oxygen. However, there are also a lot of things missing from water that are needed to make wine.
Jesus would have had to make new atoms. This is something that is impossible for anyone else – only God could have done this!
God is so amazing and to choose to do this for His first miracle – just WOW!”
Understanding the science behind the incredible things we see God do in the Bible helps us stand in greater awe of Him.
